The Dallas Cowboys could make another significant move before the NFL trade deadline as owner and general manager Jerry Jones looks for ways to improve the team’s chances this season.
Dallas is 2-4 following its loss to the Green Bay Packers, leaving the franchise searching for answers on both sides of the ball. However, with the NFC East still within reach, Jones appears unwilling to give up on the season and could explore additional trades before the Nov. 10 deadline.
Jerry Jones rules out Cowboys becoming sellers
Dallas has made several major roster moves over the past two seasons, acquiring players such as George Pickens, Kenny Clark, Quinnen Williams, Rashan Gary, Broderick Jones and Joey Porter Jr. Those transactions have cost the Cowboys valuable draft capital, but Jones remains open to making another deal if it helps the team compete immediately.
“I’ll be real clear, I could see being active at the trade deadline if it was something that could help the team this year,” Jones said, according to NFL insider Albert Breer.
When asked whether the Cowboys might consider becoming sellers, Jones quickly dismissed the possibility.
Dallas has struggled to find consistency, but the team’s position in the NFC East gives it a reason to continue pursuing reinforcements. The Cowboys could decide to use additional future assets to address their most pressing weaknesses rather than wait for the offseason.
Cowboys could target another defensive playmaker
If Dallas makes another move, improving the pass rush appears to be a logical priority. Despite adding talent to the defense, the Cowboys have yet to consistently generate the results they expected.
Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby remains a name to monitor. Dallas previously pursued a potential deal for the star pass rusher, but the trade never materialized after Baltimore’s attempted acquisition fell through because Crosby failed his physical.
Crosby’s availability would depend on Las Vegas’ plans as the deadline approaches. The Raiders entered the week at 3-3, so their decision could hinge on whether they believe they can remain competitive.
Arizona Cardinals outside linebacker Josh Sweat is another potential option. Arizona’s 2-4 start could influence its approach to the deadline, and Sweat could offer Dallas another experienced edge defender. Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Zach Sieler has also been mentioned as a possible target, although an outside pass rusher appears to be a particularly relevant need for the Cowboys.
Cowboys must decide how much more draft captial to spend
Another trade would continue Dallas’ recent approach of exchanging future assets for established NFL talent. The strategy reflects an effort to improve the roster around quarterback Dak Prescott rather than rely exclusively on the draft to address immediate needs.
However, the Cowboys must weigh the potential short-term benefits against the draft picks they would surrender. Dallas has already made several notable acquisitions, yet the team remains 2-4 and needs better performances to turn its season around.
The next few games could help determine how aggressively the front office pursues another deal. With the Nov. 10 deadline approaching, Jones has made his position clear: Dallas is willing to explore opportunities to improve, and the organization is not planning to approach the deadline as a seller.
