The Super Bowl drought for the mighty Dallas Cowboys officially stands at 30 years. To make matters worse, Jerry Jones' team has remained the only NFC team that has failed to make it to a NFC Championship game in the last three decades. There has been an unfortunate pattern that has surrounded the Cowboys: impressive regular seasons ending in early-round playoff collapses.
The 2025 NFL season was worse for "America's team" as the Dak Prescott-led side missed the playoffs entirely. While the trio of Dak Prescott, George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb helped the Cowboys to rack up 471 points, seventh-highest total in the league, the defense collapsed entirely. This led to the Cowboys ending the season with a disappointing 7-9-1 record.

But the Cowboys have reacted to the issues in the team. It all started with the blockbuster Micah Parsons trade to the Green Bay Packers. Parsons immediately signed a four-year, $188 million contract, making him the highest-paid-non-quarterback in league history. This gave the Cowboys the financial freedom and additional assets to rebuild their defense.
Jerry Jones acquired the likes of Rashan Gary, Kenny Clark and Quinnen Williams, to name a few. The Cowboys most recently were able to give Quinnen Williams a massive three-year, 105.9 million contract extension that runs through 2030. Trading Parsons initially might have looked foolish, but it's starting to make sense as the Cowboys assemble a well-rounded defense.
Jerry Jones is of the same opinion. The Cowboys owner, addressing the Micah Parsons trade, said, "Even though Micah's an outstanding talent [that] anybody would like to have, the bottom line is that I like what the result of the trade has ended up as I stand here today."
"It's like going to Las Vegas with some extra money in your pocket or going out there with the baby's new pair of shoes and formula money in your pocket. You can't be as good a crapshooter as you are when you've got the baby's new pair of shoes throwing out there with it," he added.
Jerry Jones has definitely made some bold decisions to rebuild this team. Now, it's down to head coach Brian Schottenheimer to make this team click and win the elusive Lombardi Trophy.
