Could Mark Cuban add another Dallas sports franchise to his portfolio?
Jerry Jones told Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News that the Cowboys aren't currently seeking new investors. However, the owner wouldn't rule out selling a portion of his team in the future.
If Jones were willing to sell, he said he'd consider Cuban. The entrepreneur owns 27 percent of the Dallas Mavericks after selling his majority share of the NBA franchise in 2023.
"That's exactly why if you're me, you would be open to that is because of the man," Jones told Watkins of Cuban. "I have all the respect in the world for him and I know what he did for the Mavericks and what he's done for basketball. He's in additional to financial boatstreams of your team, you want to associate with the highest quality of [a person] who loves the game and then also at the same time wants to do something about it. Mark leads the way in that."
Cuban also wouldn't dismiss the possibility of investing in the Cowboys as a member of a private equity fund that recently purchased a portion of MLB's Athletics.
"I'm sure our Harbinger fund would be open to it," Cuban said.

Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones, the son of Jerry Jones, also recently addressed the prospect of selling a share of the organization. In 2024, NFL owners passed a measure allowing them to sell up to 10 percent of the team to private equity firms.
"We wouldn't rule it out," Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan. "But we'd also be very particular in who we would bring in as a partner in terms of that. But, yes, it was designed when [the NFL] passed that rule that you could have private equity involved in the NFL and you could have minority partners, you know. It made sense for a lot of different reasons and every owner who chooses to go that path can speak for themselves in terms of why they're doing it. But it does, I think, it's a great tool."
Jerry Jones also espoused the benefit of teams receiving money from private investors. The NFL would have to approve Harbinger before Cuban's group could buy a share of any team.
"It can only be at its full potential if it attracts capital," Jerry Jones said. "That's what you're seeing and the league made it possible for capital to come in. And that at the end of the day, as for what makes it such a value called the NFL. It's a very big positive. It's very positive for the quality of the games where you call it positive for our fans. And we'll just continue to improve what the NFL has been."
