Jerry Jones is determined to lead the Dallas Cowboys to another Lombardi Trophy and bring back the glory days of the 1990s. But it has proven to be a challenging task, as the Dallas Cowboys have failed to win the Super Bowl title in 30 years. The 2025 NFL season was more of the same.
The bright spot for the Cowboys was their star-studded offense, including the likes of George Pickens, CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott. Despite the Cowboys ending the season with a 7-9-1 record and missing the playoffs, the dynamic trio helped the team score an impressive 471 points during the season, which ranked seventh in the NFL.

George Pickens was the biggest surprise of the season. The high-flying wide receiver enjoyed the best season of his career, recording 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. While Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb have long-term contracts that run through the 2028 season, Pickens has signed his franchise tag for the 2026 season, putting his long-term future into question.
Pickens' defining season has increased pressure on Jerry Jones to keep him long term, and that's exactly what CeeDee Lamb has asked Jones to do. He said to Jori Epstein of Yahoo! Sports, “I know it’s going to be a little crazy, but I know we can make a way for this one. Listen, this is my advocation: ‘@ Jerry, can you please figure out a way? Let’s figure it out. I don’t care what needs to happen. Let’s figure it out and it’s going to get you a couple more championships."
Jerry Jones, following CeeDee Lamb's request, addressed George Pickens' situation. Speaking on the "Up & Adams Show" with Kay Adams, Jones, when asked if he was thinking about Pickens' contract, said, "Absolutely, that term goes with it, with those stars, exclamation points."
"He's, that's injecting itself in the team, his players, his teammates. They're feeling about the enthusiasm he has to compete. We were scrimmaging against the Rams. We had an interception. He was tenacious in trying to strip that ball as though he were in the Super Bowl at the end of practice at that time. So, he's inspirational." he added.
Despite the contract situation, George Pickens has stayed extremely professional and continues to be one of the Cowboys' most impressive players during training camp.
