Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs jumped to 5-0 on the 2026 NFL season in Week 6 after a 22-6 win over Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday afternoon. And in Week 7, the Chiefs will look to keep their perfect season alive with a Week 7 matchup on the road against Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks.
Kansas City has dealt with injuries throughout the 2026 season, particularly at wide receiver. Rashee Rice has not played since Week 4 because of a hamstring injury, while Tyquan Thornton suffered a dislocated left ankle in the same game. Thornton is expected to miss three to four months and was placed on injured reserve, leaving Xavier Worthy as Mahomes’ top wide receiver entering Week 6.
With the Chiefs dealing with numerous injuries at the wide receiver position, and Rice missing practice on Wednesday as well, they could be forced to add a wideout at the trade deadline.

New York Jets star Garrett Wilson is one of the receivers who have been linked to the Chiefs. The No. 10 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft has been solid during the Jets’ first six games of 2026, tallying 35 catches for 418 yards and three touchdowns, all team highs. But with New York (2-4) off to another rough start, Wilson has grown frustrated with the team, and former NFL quarterback Russell Wilson thinks he is a perfect fit for the Chiefs.
“If I’m the Kansas City Chiefs… who would I go get?” Russell Wilson said on Tuesday. “I’m gonna get Garrett Wilson. If the Jets keep losing, I’m gonna go get Garrett Wilson because I believe that Garrett Wilson, down the field, with his ability, he’s a smart guy, he learns quickly, he’d be great in the Andy Reid-style offense. Patrick Mahomes and him, how he gets in and out of his breaks. They haven’t had a receiver like him.”
On Wednesday, after Russell Wilson urged the Chiefs to acquire Garrett Wilson, CBS Sports floated the idea of Kansas City trading for Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. The former Alabama star and first-round pick has not lived up to expectations during his seven NFL seasons. And through the first six weeks of 2026, Jeudy has totaled just 12 catches for 150 yards, two years removed from his 1,000-yard campaign.
“The Kansas City Chiefs would be the perfect destination for Jeudy and are as needy at the wide receiver position as any team in the league,” CBS Sports wrote. “Patrick Mahomes could use a gifted route-runner to go with his speedy weapons in Rice and Worthy, especially as this team barrels toward a potential Super Bowl run.”
Mahomes and the Chiefs will take on the Seahawks on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
