Jeremiah Smith keeps rewriting the Ohio State Buckeyes’ record book, but the star receiver made clear Saturday that his biggest remaining goal has nothing to do with individual statistics.
Smith caught 11 passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns in No. 5 Ohio State’s 31-14 win over No. 14 Iowa. After another historic performance, Smith said his focus remains on bringing another national championship to Columbus.
“Bring this team a national championship,” Smith said during his postgame interview with CBS Sports. “That’s all I’ve been chasing since the season started when we started fall camp. That’s a goal of mine before I leave here, and I’m very committed to that.”
Smith already helped Ohio State capture a national championship as a freshman in 2024, but the Buckeyes lost to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship Game and Miami in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals after going undefeated during the 2025 regular season.
The Buckeyes’ wide receiver’s commitment to another title comes as Smith continues collecting individual records at Ohio State.
Saturday’s 11 receptions raised his career total to 207, moving him past Emeka Egbuka for the most in Ohio State history. Smith’s two touchdowns also gave him 36 career receiving scores, surpassing Chris Olave’s previous program record of 35.
The wideout had already established Ohio State’s career receiving-yardage record earlier this season and now has 3,381 yards in 34 games.

Despite those accomplishments, Smith said before facing Iowa this past weekend that he is looking beyond what he has already achieved.
“I’m never satisfied with the things that I’m doing right now,” Smith told the Big Ten Network. “I’m chasing something greater than what’s right now. I’m chasing the greatest of the greatest. It’s feeling good for me. I’m still young. So I think becoming smarter, becoming a student of the game, that’s the biggest thing.”
