Former ESPN anchor Jemele Hill is questioning Riley Gaines’ motives.
Gaines, a former swimmer at the University of Kentucky, has become a right-wing influencer. She lost to Riley Gaines at the NCAA Swimming Championships, finishing in fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle final. Gaines has since become a social media influencer and activist, appearing on Fox News regularly.
The former NCAA swimmer has taken a stand against the WNBA. The league does not have any transgender players, but Gaines and others have made it priority to wreak havoc on the league, applauding former NBA player Enes Kanter for “protecting” the league by going to a game and taunting the league’s female players.
Gaines, meanwhile, has made it clear that she had issues while attending a WNBA game.
“I went to the WNBA game in Minneapolis… it was a bunch of disgruntled lesbians. It felt like the entire arena was booing Sophie Cunningham,” she said on Fox News.
Hill has a problem with this, though.
If Gaines really cares about the WNBA and its athletes, why is she publicly disparaging and taunting their fan base?
“Riley Gaines: I’m here to protect women’s sports! Also Riley Gaines: Calls female sports fans “disgruntled lesbians.'”
Hill’s fans react to her criticism of Gaines
Hill’s fans are weighing in.
“If you’re trying to “protect women’s basketball” and neither the fans nor the players want you there, then who exactly is this for?” one fan wrote.
“Who is she doing this for? It’s not the players or the fans,” one fan added.
“She’s being a hypocrite,” one fan added.
The WNBA, meanwhile, has made it clear that former NBA players Enes Kanter and Royce White, who have claimed to now identify as transgender women, will not be allowed to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft.
