Chicago Sky guard DiJonai Carrington posted "white privilege" and tagged the Indiana Fever after getting ejected from Saturday's game, following her Flagrant 2 foul on Sophie Cunningham. Naturally, most took her social media post as an accusation. But the veteran WNBA guard claims that is not the case.
"I’ve never once claimed that the assessment of the foul was white privilege (that was your assumption). Try exercising your critical thinking skills, I know you studied psych. Furthermore, I’m the LAST thing from ignorant or asinine when it comes to speaking on 'white privilege,'"do ya research on that one," Carrington later posted on X.
"I actually went to school, one of the top universities might I add, to educate myself on this exact subject. I would never use that term as a rhetorical weapon knowing the historical and social weight it holds without having the proper evidence to substantiate it."
Former ESPN star Jemele Hill weighed in, claiming that she knew Carrington's original post was not an accusation against the league's refs.
"It was pretty clear to me she wasn’t talking about the foul 🤷🏽♀️," she wrote.
If that's the case, though, then what was she really talking about?
"Then, genuinely asking, what exactly was she talking about? So many people, herself included, keep telling us what she wasn’t talking about. But no one is saying what she was," former NFL player Emmanuel Acho wrote.
Hill remains quiet after getting questioned
Hill has not clarified what she thinks Carrington was talking about.
"Many have responded to Hill in the two days since and asked, since it was so clear, what Carrington had meant by White privilege, if it wasn't the foul. Acho himself asked. In fact, OutKick also reached out to Hill directly for an explanation. Since it was 'pretty clear' what Carrington meant, could she tell the rest of us, so we can understand?" Outkick wrote.
"Stunningly, there's been no response."
It'll be interesting to see if Hill has any further clarification on what she thinks Carrington was talking about.
