It has been a rough season thus far for the Utah Jazz as they currently sit 13th in the Western Conference standings with an 18-37 record.

Of course, the Jazz were projected to be one of the worst teams in the West once again this season and with many of their key players missing time with injuries, they have been just that.

Despite this, Utah has built a solid young core led by Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George and Ace Bailey and it appears as though they are heading towards receiving another top pick in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft to continue to add to their core.

Utah also made a major move ahead of the trade deadline to bolster their roster as they acquired Jaren Jackson Jr. from the Memphis Grizzlies in a trade that included eight players and saw the Jazz send three first-round picks to the Grizzlies.

By making this move, the Jazz were looking to add another star player to their roster to help with their rebuild, though they made a major announcement regarding the 26-year-old big man on Thursday.

Ahead of their matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night, which is their final game before the All-Star break, the Jazz announced massive injury news regarding Jackson Jr.

Utah announced that Jackson Jr. will undergo surgery to remove a localized PVNS growth in his left knee that was identified in a post-trade MRI and that the procedure would occur in the coming days during the NBA All-Star break.

Chris Haynes reported that Jackson Jr.’s surgery will likely sideline him for the remainder of the season, which is a massive blow for the Jazz.

This season, the 26-year-old big man is averaging 19.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.4 blocks per game while shooting 47.6% from the field and 35.7% from three over 48 games with both the Grizzlies and Jazz.

Now the star big man is expected to miss the remainder of the season, which will likely allow for Jusuf Nurkic and Kyle Filipowski to both have larger roles moving forward for the Jazz.

While this injury is a massive blow for Utah, it appears that their focus is clearly on the future as they try to land a top draft pick once again in the upcoming draft to add to their core while Jackson Jr. is set to be a mainstay in their frontcourt alongside Markkanen and Walker Kessler for many years to come.
