ESPN college hoops analyst Jay Williams had quite the awkward moment during the 2026 NBA Draft on Tuesday night.

The first round of the 2026 NBA Draft aired on ESPN. The Wizards selected BYU forward A.J. Dybantsa with the top overall pick. Darryn Peterson of Kansas and Cameron Boozer of Duke went No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

But one of the most viral moments of the 2026 NBA Draft happened during a conversation featuring Williams, Richard Jefferson and Kenny Smith.

Jefferson, who starred collegiately at Arizona before a lengthy NBA career, referenced Williams' costly motorcycle crash, that derailed his professional career. In 2003, Williams was in a horrific motorcycle crash, suffering multiple serious injuries. Williams' injuries included a fractured pelvis, a severed main nerve in his leg, and three torn ligaments in his left knee, including the ACL. He was out of the NBA by 2004.

Williams admits that things were very uncomfortable on Tuesday night

Williams spoke with Front Office Sports, opening up about the viral moment.

“For me, it was extremely uncomfortable,” Williams told Front Office Sports. Williams added that there was “no real tension,” but it was “awkward.”

Williams has a long history with Jefferson, having played against him in the 2001 national title game.

“One of the things I hated about the moment is that, you know, a lot of times things get said and it becomes a viral moment, but I don’t like when the viral moment becomes about me when I’m there talking about these young people where the moment was about them,” he says.

Ultimately, he hopes everyone can move on.

“We’ll talk about it, we’ll learn from it, we’ll move on. Welcome to TV.”

The second round of the 2026 NBA Draft will air on ESPN's networks on Wednesday evening.
