The Houston Texans elevated running back Jawhar Jordan from the practice squad for their Week 6 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and he made the opportunity count. He rushed six times for 43 yards and a touchdown, adding seven receiving yards on his lone target. His 25-yard touchdown run was Houston’s longest rushing attempt of the season at that point. The performance offered a welcome spark in a backfield struggling to produce consistent results.
However, the team placed Jordan on the practice squad injured list on Wednesday, October 21. Head coach DeMeco Ryans confirmed that Jordan suffered a quadriceps injury. The timing is frustrating because Jordan had just delivered his most impactful performance of the season. Now, Jordan is expected to miss at least four games.
Placement on the practice squad injured list means he cannot return immediately. The running back’s next potential opportunity to play is November 29 against the Baltimore Ravens. Dare Ogunbowale is next in line behind Woody Marks.
With Jordan unavailable and David Montgomery still recovering from his groin injury, Ogunbowale is expected to serve as Houston’s RB2 against the New York Giants in Week 7. Deuce Vaughn also provides an option from the practice squad. Marks, however, remains the primary back, and Houston will need him to handle the increased workload.
David Montgomery’s Injury Keeps Woody Marks in the Spotlight
Montgomery’s absence continues to hurt Houston’s backfield depth. The veteran running back missed the London game after suffering a groin injury against Tennessee in Week 5. He remained out of practice Wednesday, and this absence has forced Houston to rely more heavily on Marks.
Marks stepped up rushing 15 times for 62 yards against Tennessee after Montgomery went down, then carried 15 times for 56 yards against Jacksonville. On the other hand, Stroud threw for 312 yards and three touchdowns against Jacksonville, while Jaylin Noel recorded 107 receiving yards and Marvin Harrison Jr. made an encouraging debut. Tank Dell has also been activated from injured reserve, potentially giving Houston another weapon for Week 7.
Regardless, Houston hosts New York on Sunday, October 25, looking for a third straight win. The Texans’ pass rush and defensive playmakers can help control the game, but allowing 31 points to Jacksonville showed that the defense still needs to be more consistent.
