Former Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett will be keeping a close eye on the U.S. Senate race in Minnesota.
Back in January, former NFL sideline reporter Michele Tafoya announced that she's running for U.S. Senate. This came as a surprise considering she spent a good chunk of her career working with Cris Collinsworth and Al Michaels on "Sunday Night Football."
"For years, I covered the biggest football games in America. I walked the sidelines when the pressure was mounting and the stakes were the highest. That job taught me about more than football. It taught me about how leadership really works. When leaders are prepared and accountable, teams succeed. When they aren't, people pay the price," Tafoya said.
"As Minnesota's senator, I will clean up the system, fighting corruption, ending the fraud and protecting your tax dollars. I will protect what's fair and safe, standing with our law enforcement officers, deporting dangerous criminals, and keeping female sports for female athletes."

On Wednesday afternoon, Garrett publicly endorsed Tafoya for Senate. He praised her character and work ethic in a video shared on social media.
"I’ve known Michele Tafoya for over 25 years, all the way back to her days at ESPN and certainly through her time at NBC" Garrett said. "As a former NFL player and coach and now as a broadcaster, I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of people through the years. It'd be hard pressed to find someone more trustworthy, kinder, more professional, more credible than Michele Tafoya. Now she has her hat in the ring, running for Senate in Minnesota. She's doing it for one reason: she loves our country, she loves Minnesota and she loves its citizen. She wants to do everything she can to make their lives better."
Is Jason Garrett staying with NBC?
NBC announced earlier this offseason that Tony Dungy and Chris Simms won't remain part of its NFL pregame show, "Football Night in America."
“I have been informed by NBC that I won’t be back with FNIA this fall and it has given me time to reflect and also to look ahead. It’s disappointing news but I want to thank my NBC family for making the last 17 years so special. I’ll have lasting memories of my time there, especially with Rodney Harrison who has become a tremendous friend,” Dungy said. “God has always directed me in these moments and while I’m not sure what the next step will be for me—whether it will be in football, in broadcasting, or getting more involved in church and community outreach —I know God has plans for my life and I can’t wait see them unfold.”
Luckily for Garrett, he'll remain part of the "Football Night in America" crew. He'll work closely with Maria Taylor, Mike Tomlin and Devin McCourty.
