Jared Goff has put together an impressive start to the 2026 season, but the Detroit Lions quarterback now owns an unusual piece of NFL history.
According to OptaSTATS, Goff became the first quarterback to throw for at least 1,200 yards with zero turnovers through his team’s first four games while failing to post a winning record.
The milestone came after Detroit’s 32-26 loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday night, dropping the Lions to 2-2.
Goff finished the loss with 412 passing yards and a touchdown on 32-of-52 passing. Through four games, he has thrown for 1,214 yards and nine touchdowns without an interception, showing that turnovers have not been the problem for Detroit.
The bigger issue has been translating that production into victories. Detroit managed only 46 rushing yards on 15 attempts against Carolina, leaving Goff to carry much of the offensive workload.
The Panthers, meanwhile, found significantly more balance. Chuba Hubbard rushed for 122 yards and two touchdowns, while rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan erupted for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
Goff also had a chance to lead a late comeback, but Carolina linebacker Princely Umanmielen sacked him with just over two minutes remaining. The play effectively ended Detroit’s final serious opportunity.

Goff’s numbers make the Lions’ 2-2 record even more frustrating. He has protected the football and produced at a high level, yet Detroit has struggled to match that efficiency in other areas.
The Lions will now look to regroup after consecutive losses. If Goff continues playing this well, Detroit will need the rest of the team to provide more support before his unusual NFL record becomes an even bigger storyline.
