Jared Goff completed his fifth season with the Detroit Lions in 2025, giving him as many years in Detroit as he had with the Los Angeles Rams. Jeff Fisher was still the head coach when Goff was selected No. 1 overall by Los Angeles in the 2016 draft.
Current Rams head coach Sean McVay did not arrive until 2017, and although the 6-foot-4 quarterback helped lead Los Angeles to a Super Bowl appearance in 2018, McVay traded him in 2021 for quarterback Matthew Stafford. Under first-time head coach Dan Campbell, Goff and the Lions went 3-13-1 in 2021, while Stafford led the Rams to a Super Bowl title that season.

Detroit has since turned around its fortunes. Goff and the Lions haven't finished below .500 since, and in 2023 they tied the franchise record for most wins in a season (12-5) before besting that mark in 2024 (15-2). With offensive weapons like running back Jahmyr Gibbs, wide receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams and tight end Sam LaPorta, Detroit will return a loaded offense for the 2026 season.
The Lions do not appear to be satisfied with their offensive talent yet, as they went to social media Thursday to announce roster moves. In a post on X, Detroit announced it released wide receiver Kyre Duplessis and signed Lawrence Keys, who is a 5-foot-11 wide receiver who originally signed with Notre Dame in the 2018 recruiting class.
Keys transferred to play for his hometown team, Tulane, right before the start of the 2021 college football season. Keys spent two seasons in New Orleans with the Green Wave. The McDonogh 35 High School graduate had his best year in 2023, when he hauled in 33 receptions for 599 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games.
Keys signed with the Buffalo Bills after going undrafted in 2024, but the Bills released him before the start of the season. The Louisiana native has been in the UFL since, playing for the Houston Gamblers in 2025 and 2026. Keys finished the 2026 regular season with 24 catches for 349 yards and two touchdowns in 10 games.
Detroit begins the 2026 NFL regular season with a home opener at Ford Field against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. ET.
