The Detroit Lions have gone through a number of changes over the past few seasons, but two constants have been head coach Dan Campbell and quarterback Jared Goff.
Campbell and Goff arrived in Detroit in the same season in 2021, as Campbell took the head coaching job just a few months before the Lions finalized a trade for Goff from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Matthew Stafford and draft picks.
Since they’ve been in Detroit, Campbell and Goff have been the catalysts for the franchise’s turnaround, including two division titles and a trip to the NFC Championship Game during the 2023-2024 season.
However, the Lions took a step back in 2025 and missed the playoffs, which may have caused the team’s coach and quarterback duo to be left off a prestigious list.
Campbell and Goff Snubbed from CBS Sports’ Top 10 Coach-Quarterback Duos List

CBS Sports’ Garrett Podell recently released his rankings of the top 10 head coach-quarterback duos in the NFL, and Campbell and Goff were nowhere to be found. Liam Coen and Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars snagged the No. 10 spot, while Sean McVay and Stafford of the Rams came in at No. 1.
Though Detroit failed to reach the postseason last year, Campbell and Goff should still have a spot on the list. Campbell is still an upper-echelon coach who has completely changed the perception around the Lions.
As for Goff, he was one of the most productive quarterbacks in the league in 2025. The former No. 1 overall pick threw for 4,564 yards and 34 touchdown passes, and kept the ball out of harm’s way, tossing just eight interceptions.
Campbell and Goff’s absence from the list should be short-lived. If Detroit can rebound in 2026 and make a deep playoff run, an argument could be made that the Lions’ coach-quarterback pair is as good as any around the league.
