Jannik Sinner found himself at the center of an unexpected moment at Milan Fashion Week just after announcing his withdrawal from the China Open.

The World No. 1 was forced to pull out of the ATP 500 event because of an ongoing right knee injury, meaning he would not make the trip to Beijing as originally planned. Instead, Sinner appeared at the Gucci Spring/Summer 2027 show in Milan, where he was seated alongside fashion icon Anna Wintour and fellow Gucci ambassador Aryna Sabalenka.

It did not take long for the China Open withdrawal to come up.

Anna Wintour Calls Out Jannik Sinner Over Beijing

A video from the Gucci show captured Wintour speaking to Sinner about his sudden change of plans.

“I thought you were going to Beijing,” Wintour told the Italian.

Sinner then offered a surprisingly lighthearted response while discussing his recovery from the knee injury.

“If I’m not ready in January, it’s going to be a big problem,” Sinner joked.

Rather than focusing on the disappointment of missing another tournament, Sinner appeared relaxed during the conversation, turning his uncertain recovery timeline into a joke.

The comment also offered a glimpse into the pressure surrounding his comeback. With the 2026 season moving toward its final stages, Sinner’s return depends on how quickly his knee responds to rehabilitation.

Aryna Sabalenka Joins Jannik Sinner’s Milan Moment

Sabalenka was standing beside Sinner during the exchange and could be seen laughing along with the World No. 1 and Wintour.

The Belarusian had her own reason to be enjoying the Milan spotlight. Earlier in the week, she made her runway debut at Vogue World: Milano, walking in a custom Gucci look during the high-profile fashion event.

She later attended the Gucci presentation in an all-white pantsuit, giving her another fashion moment alongside Sinner.

For Sinner, however, the Milan appearance came at a very different point in his season. His immediate priority remains recovering from the knee injury that forced him to withdraw from Beijing.
