Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts started the 2026 campaign off on the right foot. Hurts helped propel the Eagles to a 24-22 victory over the Washington Commanders with timely plays, both with his arm and legs.
Hurts threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns against Washington, and he added another 46 yards on the ground. Most importantly, he didn’t turn the ball over at all. Unsurprisingly, Hurts has received a great grade for his performance in the game.

Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski graded the performance of every starting quarterback in the league after Week 1, and he gave an excellent “A” grade to Hurts.
“AJ Brown is gone, and he’s not coming back to the Philadelphia Eagles. After last season’s continued in-fighting and stagnant offensive effort, the Eagles and quarterback Jalen Hurts started fresh this fall. Despite Browns’ departure, Hurts was particularly effective driving the ball down the field,” Sobleski wrote.
“. . . Philadelphia’s offense is built around a talented offensive line and an effective ground attack. Hurts struggled to make opponents pay off the play-action game in 2025. He looks to be back on track for the start of the current campaign.”
The Eagles’ new-look offense under new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion is still a work in progress, but there’s plenty of reason for optimism coming out of Week 1 when it comes to quarterback play.
Jalen Hurts Moves to 6-0 in Season Openers as the Starter in Philadelphia
With the win over the Commanders, Hurts moved to 6-0 in season openers as the starting quarterback in Philadelphia. That’s an impressive stat. At this point, Eagles fans barely even remember what starting off the season with a loss feels like.
The Birds will look to move to 2-0 on the current campaign when they travel to Tennessee to take on the Titans in Week 2. For what it’s worth, Hurts has a 1-0 career record as a starter against the Titans, but that win came back in December of 2022.
