Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts was forced to the sideline for a few plays during the first half of Philadelphia’s 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, Hurts’ absence came while the Eagles were at Chicago’s goal line, and without him out there, they were unable to capitalize on the position. Instead of putting up points, backup quarterback Andy Dalton threw an interception in the End Zone, which completely killed any momentum that the Eagles had.
Jalen Hurts Calls Andy Dalton’s Interception ‘Part of the Game’
Hurts was understandably upset about that way things played out while he was out of the game, but he took the high road after the game and refused to throw Dalton under the bus for the mistake.
“It’s part of the game,” Hurts repeated three times when asked about the interception.
Credit to Hurts here for keeping it professional. Not that we expected anything different from QB1. Plus, you shouldn’t throw stones if you live in a glass house, as the saying goes, and Hurts had an ugly interception himself in the second half of the contest. It was a rough game all around for the Eagles from a quarterbacking perspective, and all parties will need to be better moving forward.
Andy Dalton Acknowledges Major Mistake Against Bears
Also, it’s not like Dalton didn’t know that he made a major mistake. After the game, he completely owned up to the costly error that was his interception.
“We get down there, I can’t put ourselves in a bad position like that. I mean, costly turnover at a tough time, man. That’s points on the board,” Dalton said.
“[The Bears] schemed it up pretty good,” Dalton added. “I obviously didn’t see the safety in the middle, and he just read my eyes. My eyes were over there, and he just made the play. Again, I can’t put our team in that situation. Costly decision.”
As a backup quarterback, it remains to be seen when, or if, Dalton will get an opportunity to make up for the major error he made against the Bears. All he can do is remain ready and be better if he’s called on again during the season.
