The Milwaukee Brewers are entering the postseason with a different mindset, and Jake Bauers believes that change could make all the difference in their championship pursuit.
After reaching the National League Championship Series last year, Milwaukee has another opportunity to make a deep playoff run. However, Bauers suggested that the team carried some doubts into its previous postseason campaign.
Speaking ahead of the Brewers’ National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres, the veteran shared why he believes this year’s group feels different.
“I think there was an element of maybe a little bit of lack of belief that we could do it. Maybe a little bit too much doubt, and I think going into this postseason, there’s a different feeling around the team…”
Bauers’ comments offer a glimpse into the mentality inside Milwaukee’s clubhouse. The Brewers have already shown they can compete with the National League’s best, but turning regular-season success into a championship requires a different level of execution.
Milwaukee has plenty of reasons to believe in its chances. The Brewers finished the 2026 regular season with a franchise-record 103 wins, earning the National League’s top seed and a first-round bye.
Bauers could also have an important role to play in the series. With Andrew Vaughn dealing with an injury, Milwaukee may need additional contributions from its first-base options as it faces a dangerous San Diego pitching staff.

The Padres arrive in the Division Series after sweeping the Chicago Cubs in the Wild Card round. They will present a difficult challenge for a Brewers team that has enjoyed a week of rest but must quickly find its postseason rhythm.
Bauers’ message is clear: Milwaukee wants to approach October with confidence rather than hesitation. The Brewers have already built an impressive foundation during the regular season. Now, they have to prove that their changed mindset can carry them through the postseason.
