Brandon Anderson, staff writer for Action Network, recently ranked the top 32 coaching staffs in the NFL heading into the 2026 season. And the Jacksonville Jaguars’ staff, led by second-year head coach Liam Coen, finished 7th in the NFL.
His criteria for the rankings weighed play-calling, scheme creativity and overall staff cohesion, categories where Coen’s staff has stood out thanks to an offense that favors the pass and aggressive decision-making during games.
Depth of Coen’s Staff Boosts Team Strength
Coen brings a heavy locked and loaded staff in offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile. He also has key position coaches returning in special teams coordinator Heath Farwell, pass game coordinator Shane Waldron and linebacker coach Tem Lukabu.
“Jacksonville might be the first real surprise on the list so far — and I was a bit surprised too, if we’re being honest,” Anderson wrote. “Perhaps it’s a bit early to be this far in on Liam Coen’s staff after just one year on the job, but there’s just no clear weakness on the staff.
“Coen found immediate results as a head coach with 13 wins in his debut, and that for a Jaguars franchise that had badly lacked culture and identity for years.
Is the Jaguars’ coaching staff ranked too high?
No. 7 overall is a tad bit high for most as this coaching staff hasn’t been together for as long as some of the other staffs on this list but as Anderson said the staff has no real weaknesses. The only major wrinkle on their staff is experience as it’s one of the younger tenured staffs in the NFL.
Having the Jaguars coaching staff behind teams like Kansas City, San Fransisco, Los Angeles Chargers and Rams is honorable and accurate.
What Coen did in his first season as a head coach with one of the lowest franchises in the NFL historically can not be understated and sky’s the limit for his whole staff including both key coordinators. Offensive coordinator Grant Udinski and defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile are both two of the hottest names on the rise and Jacksonville should be grateful they both were retained, it won’t be long before some franchise snags them up in 2027.
