In the fallout of the controversial comments he made that led to his release from the Chicago Bulls, Jaden Ivey is speaking out on what led him to his current situation. One of the biggest revelations was how close he came to taking his own life.
Appearing on the PinPoint Podcast, Ivey stated that he has come close to committing suicide "multiple times" but thanked God and his wife for keeping him from doing it. He recalled one instance where he had a lethal dose of pills in his hand and his wife talked him out of it.
"I've almost committed suicide multiple times, and I’m not ashamed to say it," Ivey said. "I’m not ashamed because God was merciful to keep me here."
"I almost committed suicide. I had [oxycodone] pills in my hand. And my wife was telling me, ‘Don’t do this. Don’t go down this road.
"I didn't do it by God's grace."
Addressing the Controversy
Ivey made it clear in a viral video that he opposes the NBA Pride Night celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and doubled down on his opposition in his podcast appearance. He made it clear that he opposes "what is contrary to the word of god" and declared that nobody can stop him from speaking out against it.
"In terms of LGBTQ, I'm not against the man or the woman. I'm against what is contrary to the word of God," Ivey said, "Man is not supposed to lie with a man and a woman is not supposed to lie with a woman."
"I have a mouth to speak. No one can stop me!"

Ivey called out the Bulls for releasing him and said that it was only his personal beliefs that led to it.
"As long as I'm doing the will of God, abiding in Jesus Christ, that's what matters."
Ivey may or may not have a future in the NBA, but there's probably plenty of media outlets willing to give him a platform to speak on.
