J.T. Realmuto is searching for a hit at the worst possible time for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Realmuto went 0-for-3 in Friday’s 2-0 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, extending his hitless streak to 0-for-31. His slump has now stretched across nine games, with his last hit coming against the Atlanta Braves on Sept. 13.

The timing is particularly difficult for Philadelphia with only two regular-season games remaining and the club still working to secure its postseason position.

Realmuto entered Friday’s game hitting .207 with a .286 on-base percentage and a .333 slugging percentage, according to Baseball Savant. His September numbers have been even tougher, with a .113 batting average and a .391 OPS entering the final weekend.

That recent stretch has put more pressure on an offense that managed only four hits against Tampa Bay on Friday. Realmuto has also struck out 20 times in 62 September at-bats, making consistent contact an obvious challenge late in the season.

Realmuto remains an important part of Philadelphia’s lineup and catching setup, but his current offensive struggles give the Phillies something to monitor heading into October.

The Phillies cannot afford many empty at-bats with their postseason position still unsettled. Friday’s shutout was their third consecutive loss, adding more urgency to the final two games.

Realmuto will have another opportunity to end the drought Saturday. A timely hit would not erase the recent struggles, but it would certainly arrive at a useful moment for a Phillies team trying to find its offense before the postseason begins.
