Chicago Sky star DiJonai Carrington had an emotional reaction to the Connecticut Sun’s last WNBA game before the franchise relocates to Houston.
The Sun closed the Connecticut chapter of their franchise history after playing its last game at Mohegan Sun Arena on Thursday. The team will be relocated to Houston and rebrand as the Houston Comets beginning next season.
The Sun hosted the Toronto Tempo and secured a 95-81 win. It was a fitting way to end their tenure in front of their home fans.
Carrington, who started off her career with the Sun, could not help but get emotional as she addressed this WNBA development.
“It’s so sad,” said the Sky star. “… I was talking with people about how back in those days, we would travel and stay on the road after the games because it wasn’t charter flights.
“And so, just talking about how much time we got to spend together on those road trips and in the hotels postgame, in the airports. It was so much fun.”

The 5-foot-11 guard-forward out of Baylor was selected by the Sun in the second round of the 2021 WNBA Draft. She primarily came off the bench in her first three seasons.
Then, Carrington had her best season with the franchise in her fourth year after earning a starting role. She won the WNBA Most Improved Player of the Year that season. The Sun traded her to the Dallas Wings in February 2025.
Carrington also reflected on the personal relationships she built during her four years with the Sun.
“I literally have some of my best friends that I met from those days in Connecticut,” Carrington added. “People that will be at my wedding, people that will be godmothers to my children, just stuff like that you can’t replicate. And so I’m so grateful for the organization.”
The All-Defensive guard-forward will become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason as her one-year deal with the Sky expires. She will return to play for the Unrivaled league during the offseason.
