The Cleveland Browns could use rookie quarterback Taylen Green in a limited Wildcat package against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday, Oct. 18, rather than wait for conventional offensive snaps to evaluate him. Locked On Browns host Doug Durocher argued that a small Green package could supply the unpredictability an otherwise stagnant offense has lacked.
Cleveland has Green, Shedeur Sanders and starter Deshaun Watson on its active quarterback depth chart, while Dillon Gabriel (back) is designated to return. That leaves the club with a coming roster decision if it activates Gabriel, but Durocher’s proposal would create a separate evaluation opportunity for Green without displacing Watson or forcing Sanders into meaningful snaps.
Durocher suggested four or five designed plays, plus complementary looks, built around Green’s size and running ability. The point would not be to hand the rookie the offense. It would be to make Baltimore prepare for a different personnel package, while giving Cleveland evidence on whether Green can contribute in a situational role.
Ball security remains the obvious limitation. Durocher acknowledged Green’s fumble history in college, but said a narrow package could control the risk by limiting the number of decisions and exchanges Green must handle. He also noted that keeping a fourth quarterback available could require Cleveland to sacrifice depth at another position, such as special teams or the offensive line.
Baltimore, 4-1 and leading the AFC North after beating Atlanta in overtime last week, offers a difficult stage for experimentation after Cleveland’s 17-12 loss to the New York Jets. Durocher said the response matters more than the final score, but a Green package would give the Browns one tangible way to test whether their offense can find a new wrinkle before the quarterback decision becomes unavoidable.
