Inter Miami coach Cristian ‘Kily’ Gonzalez breaks his silence on rumors around Lionel Messi. The Argentina legend is rumored to return to Newell’s Old Boys to end an illustrious career.
However, the decision to move to Newell’s Old Boys lies with the Argentine star. Messi’s future has been a topic of discussion, with many expecting him to return to his boyhood club in Rosario.
Kily González Gives His Take On Messi’s Newell’s Links
Gonzalez was questioned after Inter Miami drew against San Diego FC in their last match. The question was interesting due to his own connection to Rosario. The Inter Miami coach is a former Rosario Central player, rivals of Newell’s Old Boys, and is closely associated with the club.
Despite that rivalry, Gonzalez confessed that Messi’s happiness should be a top priority.

“Only him. I want him to be happy. It is a decision that belongs exclusively to him,” Gonzalez said.
The Inter Miami coach made it clear that Messi would have his and the club’s full support, regardless of what he ultimately chooses to do.
“Whatever he wants to do, he will always have my support—not only today because I am his coach, but I have supported him from the very beginning,” Gonzalez added.
Gonzalez Has One Condition For Messi’s Return
Gonzalez gave a more personal response when he was asked about the possibility of Messi returning to Rosario in Argentina.
“If he decides to go to Rosario and play, for me, I would rather he didn’t,” Gonzalez said.
“I will always support him and be there for him in the best way possible,” González added.
Messi’s connection with Newell’s has fueled long-standing speculation of a future return to Argentina. However, there is no confirmed agreement between Inter Miami and Newell’s Old Boys for the return of Lionel Messi.
