Didier Deschamps has been one of the most successful figures in French football, first as a player and now as the manager of the France national team. For the third consecutive year, he led Les Bleus to the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinal.
Away from football, Deschamps has built a quiet family life.

Didier Deschamps has been married to Claude Antoinette since 1989.
The couple first met in Nantes in 1985, before Deschamps became one of France's greatest footballers. Since then, Claude has stood by his side throughout his playing and coaching career, supporting him as football took the family to cities including Marseille, Turin, and London.
Together, they have one son, Dylan Deschamps, who was born in 1996. Unlike his father, Dylan chose a different career path. He earned a Master of Science degree and now works in London, keeping a low public profile.
Ethnicity, Nationality and Family Background
Didier Deschamps is French and of Basque heritage.
He was born in Bayonne, a city in southwestern France near the Spanish border that is part of the historic Basque region. He was raised in a Catholic family, and his upbringing played an important role in shaping his values and discipline.
Deschamps has also experienced personal heartbreak. When he was 19 years old, his brother Philippe died in a plane crash, a tragedy that had a lasting impact on his life.
Didier Deschamps lost both of his parents within a span of four years during major international tournaments, with his father, Pierre Deschamps, passing away unexpectedly on May 31, 2022, during a Nations League campaign. His mother, Ginette Deschamps, passed away recently on June 23 during the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In both heartbreaking instances, Deschamps temporarily left the French national team camp to return to the Basque region for their funerals, leaving his long-time assistant manager Guy Stéphan to briefly take charge of Les Bleus
Although he has spent decades in the public eye, Deschamps has always preferred to keep his private life out of the headlines.
