The San Francisco 49ers are off to a 2-0 start which is extra-surprising when you notice how many stars on their defensive line are battling injuries. Unfortunately, the injury room just added Pro Bowler Nick Bosa.
According to NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, Bosa pulled a calf in practice on Thursday and will now miss “a few weeks.” He will miss Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals and the team is mulling whether to place him on injured reserve.
“Five-time Pro-Bowl DE Nick Bosa pulled his calf during Thursday’s practice and now is expected to miss “a few weeks”, including Sunday’s game vs. the Cardinals, sources tell me and @RapSheet . The team is figuring out whether or not Bosa needs to be placed on injured reserve,” Schefter wrote on X.
Getting Full…
Schefter noted that Bosa is now the sixth 49ers defensive lineman to suffer an injury in just the past two weeks. He joins Alfred Collins, Sam Okuayinonu, James Thompson Jr., Romello Height and C.J. West, who are all injured.
Their 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams is still battling through an ACL injury that he suffered last season.
Nevertheless, the 49ers still boast one of the top defensive units in the NFL. They’ve allowed a grand total of 20 points through two games and are one of the top pass defenses in the league.

Last year Bosa was limited to just three games due to injuries. It marked the second time in his career that he’s missed 14 games in a season.
This latest injury hopefully isn’t as bad as those ones, but it does continue a growing trend of missing multiple games in a season. And for a player who’s only 28 and should theoretically be in his prime, that’s a lot of time languishing on the sideline.
The older he gets, the longer even small injuries are likely to keep him on the shelf.
