Sophie Cunningham and the Indiana Fever will have a couple more weeks off as Team USA moves on to the knockout round at the 2026 FIBA World Cup in Berlin, Germany. The Fever entered the WNBA break with a 26-14 record on the 2026 season, coming off a 111-91 win over the Connecticut Sun on August 28.
Cunningham has been one of Indiana’s top players since joining the team in 2025. In 39 games this season, the former Phoenix Mercury guard is averaging 8.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 22.7 minutes per game, mostly off the bench.
But before Cunningham was a star in the WNBA, she made a name for herself in college with the Missouri Tigers from 2015 to 2019, where she averaged 17.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists.

Cunningham grew up in Columbia, Missouri, where she attended Rock Bridge High School. She was raised by her parents, Jim and Paula, along with her older sister, Lindsey. And the Cunningham family often spent time on their nearby farm in Rocheport, Missouri.
Cunningham has often gone back to her hometown in Missouri during WNBA breaks, and this one was no different. In fact, on Monday, the Fever guard shared an update on her life back home as the break rolls on, sharing a video of her process before a trail ride with mules and donkeys.
“Good morning, we are going trail riding, so you guys are going to get ready with me and come with me,” Cunningham said on TikTok. “We’re going to be trail riding with mules and donkeys. Typically, we just wear shorts and T-shirts, but I guess this is like the real deal, so I’ll put on jeans.”
The video included her pre-trail riding process, along with a portion of the ride itself, with a caption of “could do this every day 🐴❤️🔥.”
Cunningham and the Fever will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 18, hitting the road to face the Toronto Tempo at 7:30 p.m. ET.
