Sophie Cunningham joined the Indiana Fever via trade in 2025 and has since emerged as an important piece of the franchise. This season, she’s averaging 8.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
Cunningham is the team’s fourth-best scorer behind Kelsey Mitchell, Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. She’s also among the best 3-point shooters on the team, making 43.4% of her shots from deep.
While it’s less than two years since she joined the Fever, Cunningham has also developed a close relationship with Clark. The two have bonded well off the court, alongside Lexie Hull.
With that said, Cunningham has witnessed firsthand how impactful Clark has been for the WNBA. The Fever have often sold out games, both at home and on the road, and they have always been a big draw on TV.

However, what Cunningham couldn’t understand was why several of their peers couldn’t acknowledge Clark and the positive developments she has brought to the league.
“It’s been a blessing that she’s in our league,” Cunningham told Colin Cowherd during an appearance on his podcast. “I think the talent has always been there in our league. But just like, the eyes and the platform and how she’s transforming our game. We can be thankful for the people who came before us, but you can also witness greatness and say that she is great.”
The WNBA veteran added, “She has done so much for our sport right now, and I don’t know why people are so reluctant to give her flowers.”
Clark has been dubbed by many as the “Face of the WNBA” because she’s undeniably the league’s most marketable player. Not to mention that she has lived up to the hype surrounding her, establishing herself as an All-Star and one of the league’s best playmakers.
Unfortunately, as Cunningham hinted, others refuse to recognize her impact. In fact, ESPN legend Dick Vitale even said earlier in the WNBA season that it’s “sad” how Clark’s peers treat her.
