The Indiana Fever just lost one of their players to injury. Backup center-forward Damiris Dantas has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a knee issue.
In an announcement on Tuesday, the Fever revealed that Dantas "underwent successful knee surgery on Monday to repair a torn meniscus in her left knee." However, that means the Brazilian big won't be able to play again this campaign as she recovers from the operation.
Dantas has played sparingly this season. In 12 appearances for Indiana, she averaged 3.3 points and 1.5 rebounds in 8.2 minutes per game. Considering the Fever's rather thin frontcourt, however, her absence is certainly a blow to the team.
Despite the unfortunate setback, Dantas is keeping a positive attitude as she now focuses on her recovery and rehab. In a post on her Instagram story, the 33-year-old shared her appreciation for all the fans who have supported her and promised that she'll be "back on the court soon."

"Thank you all for the love, prayers, and kind messages," Dantas wrote. "I'm truly grateful for all the support I've been receiving. It means so much to me.
"Now it's time to focus on my recovery, trust the process, and come back stronger. I'll be back on the court soon. See you all soon."
Dantas is facing months of healing and rehab as a result of her injury. According to WebMD, it can take six to ninemonths for an athlete to get back to playing following a meniscus repair.
That timeline suggests that Dantas should be available by the start of the 2027 campaign if she doesn't suffer any setbacks.
