Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is fresh off a gold medal win with Team USA at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup on Sunday. She then saw a development in her favor the following day. The three-time All-Star overtook her Fever teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, in the latest WNBA MVP odds.
Mitchell previously held the No. 3 spot at +3500 on FanDuel’s MVP ladder before the World Cup break, but her odds have since dropped to +5000. Clark’s chances, on the other hand, improved from +6000 to +4500. She is now the third-favorite to win the title, while Mitchell dropped to fourth.
Both guards have played instrumental roles in Indiana’s success this season. The team currently ranks fifth in the standings with a 26-14 record.
Las Vegas Aces forward and reigning MVP A’ja Wilson continues to be the overwhelming favorite for the league’s highest individual honor at -1250. Minnesota Lynx rookie phenom Olivia Miles follows at +800.
The Fever have four games left in their regular-season schedule. They have secured a playoff berth, but the final seedings have yet to be determined.
Clark, Mitchell and Co. can finish as high as No. 2 or as low as No. 8. The Fever have the same record as the Atlanta Dream, but it’s the Dream that owns the tiebreaker. Indiana is currently three games behind the second-seeded Aces.
The Fever will play their next game against the Toronto Tempo on Friday at Coca-Cola Coliseum. A two-game homestand follows before they wrap up their regular season with a matchup against the No. 1 seed Lynx at Target Center on Sept. 24.
