Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell made sure to put in the work during the current WNBA break.
The Fever could have had three players on Team USA in the ongoing 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, but Mitchell was not included in the final roster. Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston are currently in Berlin, Germany, representing the U.S. in the prestigious international tournament.
Mitchell, who is pursuing a PhD at Liberty University, chose not to participate in any of the USA basketball camps during the build-up to the World Cup. Team USA opted to choose players who previously participated in camps and international tournaments for continuity.
Mitchell is having a stellar season with Indiana, averaging 25.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.1 steals in 40 games. The 5-foot-8 guard is also the second-leading scorer in the WNBA, just behind four-time MVP A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces.
Mitchell is wasting no time amid the WNBA break. She has continued to put the work in after being left off the national squad.
A video of the Fever star’s on-court workout session was recently posted on TikTok. “MVP candidate Kelsey Mitchell staying sharp during the WNBA break,” the caption read.
The four-time WNBA All-Star has recently set a new WNBA record for the most consecutive 20+ point games with 24 straight.
Mitchell also became the first guard in league history to score 1,000+ points in a single regular season. She was also just the second player in history to reach this incredible mark. Mitchell holds the Fever franchise record for most 30+ point games with 19.
Team USA improved to 2-0 after Sunday’s win over Italy. Their final group stage game is on Monday against Nigeria.
The Fever, on the other hand, will return to action on Sept. 18 against the Toronto Tempo.
