Kelsey Mitchell is having arguably the best WNBA season of her career. The Indiana Fever star is currently shooting 51.3% from the field and 45.5% from three, both career highs. She is also averaging a career-best 25.0 points, and she has played all 40 games for the Fever so far.
Selected second overall in the 2018 Draft, Mitchell has now emerged as one of the franchise’s best players. Mitchell is a four-time WNBA All-Star and one-time All-WNBA First Team member.
The nine-year veteran is also the second-leading scorer in the league, trailing only reigning MVP A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces. She has also helped the Fever in other off-court activities, especially in helping their community in Indiana.
Mitchell’s incredible journey all began with her family. Her brother, Cameron, is also a basketball player who currently plays professionally in Mexico. He is currently the second-leading scorer in the CIBAPAC league with 31.3 points per game.
Her father, Mark Mitchell, was also a major influence for the Fever guard. He was a longtime basketball coach in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served as an assistant coach at Ohio State University from 2013 to 2018. Mitchell played for the Buckeyes from 2014 to 2018, effectively having her dad as a coach during her collegiate years.
Mark Mitchell was recently named as one of the greatest basketball coaches in Cincinnati high school history. He led Taft High School to its first state championship in 2011.
The four-time WNBA All-Star shared the post in her Instagram stories, along with an endearing message about her father.

Mitchell lost her father in 2024. He died at the age of 56.
The goal now for Mitchell is to help the Fever win the WNBA Championship. They are looking to finish the regular season strong and carry the momentum into the playoffs.
