The Indiana Fever have produced some of the greatest players in WNBA history, and no name is more synonymous with the franchise than Tamika Catchings. During her remarkable 15-year career, Catchings built a resume that included a WNBA championship, league MVP honors, five Defensive Player of the Year awards and countless records that seemed untouchable.
Even a decade after retiring following the 2016 season, many of her achievements remain among the league's all-time standards. On Wednesday, however, one of those marks finally fell. Dallas Wings All-Star Jessica Shepard etched her name into the WNBA record books with an unprecedented all-around statistical feat, surpassing a milestone that had belonged to the Fever icon for years.
Jessica Shepard Makes WNBA History
With her third assist during Wednesday's game, Shepard became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 300 points, 300 rebounds and 150 assists in a single season.
According to ESPN Insights, Shepard accomplished the feat in just 28 games, breaking the previous record held by Tamika Catchings.
The accomplishment highlights Shepard's outstanding all-around production during her first season with the Dallas Wings. Already named a 2026 WNBA All-Star, the versatile forward has emerged as one of the league's most complete players by impacting every area of the game.
Tamika Catchings' Legacy Remains Untouched
While Shepard now owns this particular record, it does little to diminish the extraordinary legacy Catchings built in Indiana.
Selected by the Fever with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2001 WNBA Draft, Catchings spent her entire 15-year WNBA career with the franchise. She led Indiana to its first and only WNBA championship in 2012 while earning Finals MVP honors and captured league MVP honors the previous season.
Catchings retired after the 2016 season as one of the most decorated players in league history. Her No. 24 jersey hangs in the rafters, and she remains the face of the Fever's most successful era.
Even after Wednesday's record fell, Catchings still owns or shares numerous franchise and league accomplishments that may stand for years to come.
Another Historic Season for Jessica Shepard
Shepard's record-breaking campaign has been filled with milestones.
After signing with the Wings ahead of the 2026 season, she quickly established herself as one of the league's premier forwards. Her ability to score, rebound and facilitate has made her one of the biggest reasons Dallas has remained in the playoff picture.
Now, by becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 300 points, 300 rebounds and 150 assists in a season, Shepard has added another remarkable achievement to her breakout year.
For Indiana fans, Wednesday served as a reminder of Catchings' enduring greatness. The fact that one of her records lasted a decade after her retirement speaks volumes about the remarkable standard she set throughout her Hall of Fame career.
