With their 2026 season officially over, Indiana Fever general manager Amber Cox addressed the media this Saturday.
The Fever’s season ended Thursday night with a Game 3 loss to the Las Vegas Aces. There was plenty of controversy surrounding this series, especially since Aces star A’ja Wilson confronted a Fever fan during the late stages of Game 2.
“I think there’s a certain etiquette that both players and fans need to abide by, but clearly there’s something that gets- the lines get crossed, and it seems to happen here,” Aces coach Becky Hammon told reporters after Game 2. “I’m not, I mean, like I said, I don’t, I can’t speak specifically to what was said or what was done, but I could speak to the character of our players and stuff that they deal with and, you know, the disrespect, whether that’s a word or an action, a gesture should be addressed appropriately.”
The Fever, meanwhile, said the fan didn’t violate their code of conduct. Despite the fact that no violation was found at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Fever’s fan base has been accused of displaying vulgar behavior.
During this Saturday’s end-of-season press conference, Cox fired back at those claims.
“The attacks on our fanbase have no basis in reality, and they need to stop – especially with members of the media,” Cox said. “I’m talking about the media that’s never been to a game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Every organization throughout professional sports have to deal with occasional bad behavior with spectators. Anyone who crosses the line needs to be held accountable. There’s a line, and people need to be held accountable. However, we didn’t have one fan pointed out by a player who violated the WNBA’s code of conduct this season. Not one fan was removed from the game.”

What’s next for the Fever?
The Fever are entering a crucial offseason, as All-Star guard Kelsey Mitchell is set to become an unrestricted free agent. Her veteran experience has been a huge bonus to Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and the rest of the squad.
While it’s possible the veteran guard leaves Indiana this offseason, Cox said the Fever want to keep the trio of Boston, Clark and Mitchell around.
“We want to keep this three together,” Cox told reporters Saturday.
Only time will tell if the Fever can build a championship core.
