Stephanie White and the Indiana Fever faced the Chicago Sky on Sunday to close out their five-game road trip.
The contest was disrupted by a heated incident in the third quarter involving former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom. The ex-Boston Celtics and Oklahoma City Thunder center made the trip to Wintrust Arena to watch Sunday’s matchup, but he wasn’t able to finish the game after getting ejected from the arena in the second half.
Kanter Freedom recently made headlines after declaring his intention to enter the 2027 WNBA Draft. His announcement came following Sophie Cunningham’s controversial comments about not wanting transgender athletes to play in the league.
Kanter Freedom stated that he intends to meet all the requirements to enter the WNBA draft. The league currently has no policy against transgender athletes playing in the WNBA.
Kanter Freedom had a heated exchange with Sky star Natasha Cloud during Sunday’s game. It is unclear what was said between the two. However, the former NBA big man was immediately escorted out of the arena.
The Fever were asked to comment about the incident during the postgame press conference. Caitlin Clark said that she did not see what happened. Coach White, on the other hand, made a request to the media.
“I mean, I think it’s important that people like you guys in this room don’t give it any gas, right?” White said. “It’s a social media thing.”
Kanter Freedom’s ejection emerged as one of the biggest storylines of the game, and White did not want to give the situation any extra attention. She appealed to reporters not to make the incident any bigger than it already is.
As for the basketball, it was Clark who led the way for the Fever with an incredible 37-point performance. Kelsey Mitchell chipped in with 30 points as Indiana snapped their two-game losing skid.
The Fever secured a lopsided win at Chicago, 113-90.
Indiana improved to 25-14 and remains fifth in the standings. The Sky, on the other hand, dropped to 15-23 and have now been eliminated from playoff contention.
