A lot of noise surrounded the Indiana Fever after Sunday’s Game 1 blowout loss to the Las Vegas Aces. Caitlin Clark and Co. proved no match for the defending champions, who dominated the opening game of this first-round series, 102-85.
After the game, a clip of head coach Stephanie White assessing her team’s performance circulated on social media. White’s quote was clipped together with Clark expressing her disappointment in the loss.
Some fans on social media interpreted the edited clip as White and Clark calling each other out during the press conference. The Fever coach was asked about this supposed issue ahead of Tuesday’s Game 2 showdown, and White addressed it directly.
“Look, I think we both understand that social media noise doesn’t really have anything to do with what we do,” White stated. “I think the biggest thing for us is staying focused on our team and staying focused on what we can do to get better.
“Yeah, some of the offensive stuff wasn’t working. Sometimes you got to get knocked in the mouth to figure things out.
“So all of those things can be true, and all those things can be true without there being a controversy.”
As White emphasized, the Fever will need to shut down all the outside noise and keep their focus on the task at hand. Right now, Indiana must win Game 2 to keep its season alive.
Clark and the Fever play at home on Tuesday, and they will need to take advantage of their home court as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Tipoff from Gainbridge Fieldhouse is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on Prime Video.
