Indiana Fever forward Makayla Timpson produced her career high against the Atlanta Dream.
On Sunday, the marquee matchup between the Fever and the Dream went down inside State Farm Arena, and the former eked out a 95-91 overtime win.
But the game belonged to Timpson, who recorded a career-high 20 points in a spot start. The 6-foot-2 frontcourt player also added seven boards to help the Fever pick up their 23rd win of the season.
With this incredible performance, ESPN’s Andraya Carter commemorated this game with a nickname tied to Timpson after her unexpected breakout performance.
“This game is officially titled the Makayla Timpson game,” Carter declared. “For Makayla Timpson to have 20 points. She had 12 points in the first half. She was five of six from the field in the first half, and that was pivotal because Kelsey Mitchell was limited in the first half.”
The analyst and reporter also stated that Timpson’s performance was the biggest X factor in securing Indiana’s victory.
“So Makayla Timpson held on strong with her scoring,” Carter continued. “She ends up with a career-high 20 points, and that ends up being the separator.”
It was Timpson’s first double-digit scoring output since Aug. 8, when she put up 10 points, with three boards and three dimes against the Chicago Sky.
The former Florida State standout is averaging 4.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 0.5 steals in 34 appearances this.
Carter also believes this breakout game will benefit the second-year player drafted in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft.
“For Makayla Timpson to have the day that she did on the road,” Carter added. “It’s going to give her more confidence; it’ll give her teammates even more confidence in her, and she has become a huge piece for this team.”
Next up for Timpson and the Fever is the Toronto Tempo, whom they’ll face on Tuesday at Scotiabank Arena. That will be the second game of their current five-game road trip.
