Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston weren’t the only ones to win a gold medal for Team USA at the recently concluded FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White also returned from Berlin, Germany, with a gold medal around her neck as part of the national team’s coaching staff.
White served as an assistant under head coach Kara Lawson. The former WNBA Coach of the Year provided valuable insight from the bench, helping lead Team USA to its fifth straight World Cup title and 12th overall.
The Fever, along with the Indiana Pacers Foundation and her alma mater, Purdue University, gave White a warm welcome back home. On Tuesday, two newly renovated basketball courts at Tarkington Park in Indianapolis were unveiled to honor White and WNBA legend Tamika Catchings.
The Fever announced the update via a press release on its official website.
According to the press release, “the two courts celebrate the legacies of White and Catchings, whose careers have helped shape Indiana’s basketball tradition and inspire generations of players.”
White is widely considered a basketball icon in Indiana. She earned Ms. Basketball honors in 1995 as the star of Seeger High School. She later led the Purdue Boilermakers to its first NCAA championship title in 1999. As a professional, White played four out of her five WNBA seasons for the Fever.
After transitioning into coaching, White served as an assistant coach under Lin Dunn when the Fever won their first and only WNBA championship in 2012. White became head coach in 2015. After successful collegiate and WNBA coaching stints elsewhere, she returned to Indiana as head coach in 2025.
“I’m proud to be connected to two outstanding organizations that share a deep commitment to the game of basketball and the communities it inspires,” White said. “My hope is that every young person who steps onto this court can see their own potential, feel a sense of belonging and dream of one day competing at the highest level.”
White will now turn her focus to the WNBA. The Fever have four games left in the regular season as they look to improve on their 26-14 record and fifth-place standing heading into the playoffs.
The Fever’s first game after the World Cup break comes on Friday. They will be on the road against the Toronto Tempo. Tipoff from Coca-Cola Coliseum is slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.
