The Spartans enter at 2-2 overall and will play their first Mountain West game of the season. Hawai’i is 1-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play after losing its first two Mountain West games.
The college football game also marks another meeting for the Dick Tomey Legacy Trophy, named after the legendary coach who led both programs.

San Jose State and Hawai’i Meet for Tomey Trophy
Saturday’s game is a Mountain West matchup with the Dick Tomey Legacy Trophy at stake. Tomey coached both programs during his Hall of Fame career, and the trophy is a tribute to his impact on San José State and Hawai’i football.
San José State is looking for its sixth consecutive win over Hawai’i and fourth straight road victory against the Rainbow Warriors.
The Spartans opened the season with a loss to USC before beating Eastern Michigan and Cal Poly. They then fell 26-10 to Fresno State in their most recent game. Hawai’i opened with a road loss at Stanford and a loss at home against UNLV. The Rainbow Warriors earned their first win of the season against New Mexico State before losing at Wyoming in their latest outing.
