Seven months after Seattle defeated New England 29-13 to win the Super Bowl, the two teams meet again to open the new season.

Seattle enters the season under head coach Mike Macdonald, who begins his third season with the Seahawks. Sam Darnold returns as the starting quarterback after leading Seattle to the Super Bowl title in his first season with the team. Jaxon Smith-Njigba also returns after winning the 2025 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.
The Seahawks will have some notable injury concerns entering the opener. Safety Ty Okada has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, while safety Nick Emmanwori will also not suit up due to an ankle injury. Wide receiver Tory Horton is also questionable with a hamstring injury. Offensive lineman Josh Jones has been cleared to play.
New England is led by head coach Mike Vrabel and quarterback Drake Maye. The Patriots have added veteran talent around Maye this offseason, including Brown and Doubs, as they look to build on last season’s run to Super Bowl LX.
The Patriots will be without running back TreVeyon Henderson, who was ruled out Wednesday because of an ankle injury. Henderson led New England with 911 rushing yards and nine touchdowns as a rookie. Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to take on a larger role in the backfield. Center Ben Brown is also out with a knee injury, while defensive tackle Christian Barmore is cleared to play after dealing with a knee issue.
