The Golden State Warriors have plenty to worry about heading into Friday night’s home opener against the Memphis Grizzlies. Stephen Curry and the Warriors are coming off an ugly 127-105 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, while Memphis arrives with confidence after a 123-103 victory over the Utah Jazz.
But the biggest storyline might be the performance of Memphis guard Ty Jerome.
Jerome erupted for a career-high 45 points against Utah, setting a Grizzlies franchise record for points in a season opener. His performance helped Memphis begin the season with a 20-point victory and immediately established him as a player Golden State will need to contain.
The Warriors are dealing with significant injury concerns, including the absence of Kristaps Porzingis, Jimmy Butler III and Moses Moody. Those personnel issues place additional responsibility on Curry and Golden State’s available rotation.
With Memphis looking to build on an impressive opening victory and Golden State desperate for a better performance, Friday’s late-night matchup offers several intriguing storylines.

Ty Jerome Coming Off Historic Memphis Performance
Jerome delivered one of the most impressive individual performances of opening week when he scored 45 points against Utah. The performance established a franchise record for points in a Grizzlies season opener and gave Memphis an immediate offensive spark.
The Grizzlies defeated the Jazz 123-103, demonstrating their ability to score effectively while controlling the game. Memphis underwent significant roster changes during the offseason, including trading Ja Morant to Portland. The organization is now attempting to establish a new identity built around a younger roster.
Friday presents another important test against a Golden State team eager to respond after its opening defeat.
Stephen Curry, Warriors Facing Injury Challenges
Golden State’s injury situation has created additional uncertainty surrounding its available rotation. Butler and Moody remain sidelined with knee injuries, while Porzingis is out because of an illness-related health concern.
Brandin Podziemski has also been listed as questionable with back soreness, while Charles Bassey has been considered doubtful because of a knee issue. Those absences leave Golden State depending heavily on Curry, who scored 23 points against the Lakers in the opener.
The Warriors trailed Los Angeles by as many as 35 points and ultimately lost by 22. Golden State will need improved defensive execution, better offensive rhythm and stronger contributions from its available players to avoid a 0-2 start.
Memphis also has injury concerns, with Isaiah Stewart dealing with an ankle issue and Cedric Coward appearing on the injury listing, because of a wrist problem. The Grizzlies have momentum, but the Warriors will be motivated to respond in front of their home fans.
