The Vancouver Canucks didn’t have much time to celebrate their first home victory of the season. Less than 24 hours after rallying for a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday night, Vancouver is right back at Rogers Arena on Sunday to face Jack Eichel and the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Canucks scored four unanswered goals in the third period Saturday to erase a 1-0 deficit and improve to 2-1-0 under new head coach Manny Malhotra.
Now comes a considerably different challenge.
Vegas enters Sunday 1-1-0 and will be playing its first road game of the season. Eichel already has five points through two games, making him one of the hottest players in the NHL during the opening week.

Canucks Face Quick Turnaround After Flames Win
Vancouver couldn’t have asked for a much better finish Saturday night. The Canucks trailed Calgary entering the third period before Liam Ohgren tied the game. Elias Pettersson then scored the go-ahead goal, with Drew O’Connor adding another before Aatu Raty finished the 4-1 victory with an empty-net goal.
Leevi Merilainen stopped 23 of 24 shots.
It was Vancouver’s first home victory of the season and moved the Canucks to 2-1-0. Now they have to do it again on tired legs.
Vegas had Saturday off after splitting its first two games and brings a rested lineup into Rogers Arena.
Eichel has been outstanding early, recording one goal and four assists through two games.
Vancouver has some early offensive standouts of its own.
Elias Pettersson has five points through three games, while Liam Ohgren has recorded four points and has started the season on a three-game point streak.
The Canucks have struggled historically against Vegas, going 7-19-2 in the all-time series.
Sunday provides an early opportunity to start changing that trend.
It also will test how much Vancouver has left after an emotional comeback less than 24 hours earlier.
