The 2026 college football season continues Saturday as Tennessee opens its campaign at Neyland Stadium against Furman.
The Volunteers enter the season looking to build on a 2025 campaign that ended with an 8-5 record and a loss to Illinois in the Music City Bowl. Tennessee is beginning its sixth season under head coach Josh Heupel and will have several new pieces on both sides of the ball.
The biggest storyline Saturday will be at quarterback, where true freshman Faizon Brandon will make his first career start for Tennessee. Brandon won the starting job over fellow freshman George MacIntyre during the offseason and enters his first college game as one of the most highly regarded recruits in the country.

Tennessee Volunteers Roster Outlook
Josh Heupel enters his sixth season as Tennessee’s head coach. The Volunteers are looking for a bounce-back season after finishing 8-5 in 2025.
Brandon will make his first collegiate start after winning the quarterback competition. He was a five-star recruit and one of the top prospects in the 2026 recruiting class. George MacIntyre, who was also competing for the job, is expected to see the field at some point.
The Volunteers also enter the season with a new defensive coordinator. Jim Knowles takes over the defense after Tennessee allowed 28.9 points per game in 2025. His debut will be one of the other major storylines to watch Saturday.
