The Anaheim Ducks begin their 2026-27 season with about as difficult and intriguing an opening-night assignment as they could get.
Anaheim heads to Las Vegas on Friday night to face the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena, beginning a new season against the same franchise that ended the Ducks’ playoff run last spring.
Vegas already has one game under its belt and enters Friday at 1-0-0. Anaheim, meanwhile, will be playing its first regular-season game before returning home Sunday for its home opener against the Florida Panthers.
Here is everything fans need to know about watching the Ducks and Golden Knights on Friday night.

Ducks Get Immediate Test in Las Vegas
Anaheim doesn’t have to wait long for an emotional matchup. The Ducks’ new season begins against the same Golden Knights team that eliminated them from the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
That gives Friday’s opener a little more intrigue than the typical first game of an 82-game regular season.
Anaheim will also be playing its first meaningful game with some uncertainty surrounding its lineup. The Ducks announced this week that Troy Terry was placed on long-term injured reserve, while defensemen Tristan Luneau, Travis Mitchell and Noah Warren were among the players recalled from San Diego.
Vegas has already started its season.
The Golden Knights enter Friday’s matchup with a 1-0-0 record and now get another game at T-Mobile Arena before Anaheim returns to Southern California for Sunday’s home opener.
Friday’s matchup also comes one day after the Golden Knights held a private practice for local first responders on the ninth anniversary of the Oct. 1, 2017, mass shooting in Las Vegas. Vegas coach Ryan Craig spoke about the importance of recognizing and thanking the first responders invited to attend the practice.
Once the puck drops Friday, though, the attention turns toward a matchup with some recent history behind it.
Anaheim has waited an entire offseason for another opportunity after its playoff elimination.
Its first chance arrives immediately.
