The Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres begin their National League Wild Card Series on Tuesday night at Petco Park.
Chicago enters the best-of-three series as the No. 5 seed after finishing the regular season 89-73. San Diego earned the No. 4 seed with a 91-71 record, giving the Padres home-field advantage for the entire series.
The matchup is a rematch of last year’s NL Wild Card Series, when the Cubs eliminated the Padres in three games at Wrigley Field. The winner of this year’s series advances to face the Milwaukee Brewers in the NL Division Series.

The Game 1 pitching matchup features Chicago left-hander Matthew Boyd against San Diego right-hander Michael King. Boyd finished the regular season 10-5 with a 3.91 ERA and 96 strikeouts, while King went 12-10 with a 3.21 ERA and 159 strikeouts.
Pete Crow-Armstrong leads a Cubs lineup that produced one of the National League’s most dangerous offenses during the regular season. Chicago also has veteran third baseman Alex Bregman available for the postseason after he returned from a facial injury late in the regular season.
The Padres counter with stars Manny Machado and Fernando Tatis Jr. San Diego won 51 games at Petco Park during the regular season and will host all three potential games in the series.
