The Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens enter their preseason opener hoping to put a disappointing 2025 season behind them. Philadelphia finished 11-6, won the NFC East but was eliminated by the San Francisco 49ers in the wild card round after entering the year as the defending Super Bowl champion.
The Ravens had an even tougher fall, finishing 8-9 and missing the playoffs after starting 1-5. Baltimore has since made a major change, replacing John Harbaugh with first-year head coach Jesse Minter.

Which Players Are Sitting Out NFL Preseason Week 1?
Neither starting quarterback is expected to play Saturday. Minter has confirmed that Lamar Jackson will sit, while Philadelphia is also expected to rest Jalen Hurts. That puts Baltimore’s Tyler Huntley, Joe Fagnano and Austin Reed in line for quarterback work, with Huntley expected to receive the most snaps. For Philadelphia, Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee are competing for the backup job behind Hurts.
Philly’s other notable absences include DeVonta Smith, who has been dealing with a hamstring issue, while rookie receiver Makai Lemon has also been working through a hamstring injury.
Baltimore will also be without several established players, including Kyle Hamilton. Cornerback Nate Wiggins, who recently suffered a leg injury in practice, is one notable player nursing an injury, although testing showed no structural damage to Wiggins’ leg.

The Ravens travel to face the Minnesota Vikings on Aug. 22 before hosting the Washington Commanders on Aug. 28. The Eagles visit the New England Patriots on Aug. 22 and host the Cincinnati Bengals on Aug. 28.
