Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs received two misdemeanor charges on Aug. 27, adding another layer of risk for fantasy football managers drafting him near his current price. Brown County prosecutors charged Jacobs with misdemeanor battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property stemming from an alleged May incident. The NFL continues to review the case and could discipline Jacobs under its Personal Conduct Policy.

The timing creates an immediate fantasy football decision for managers who have yet to draft. FantasyPros currently lists Jacobs at RB16 with a consensus PPR average draft position (ADP) of No. 32 overall, placing him near the beginning of the third round in 12-team leagues. His established workload and touchdown upside still back that general value range when he plays, but fantasy managers now have to price in a legitimate possibility that Jacobs misses regular-season games. We’ve also seen the NFL discipline plenty of players without a conviction in court, so this one feels like it’s headed in that direction given the seriousness of the allegations.

To be clear, a suspension remains uncertain, including whether the NFL would impose one before Green Bay opens the season at Minnesota on Sept. 13. The formal charges nevertheless justify moving Jacobs behind similarly valued running backs who enter the season without a comparable availability concern.

Josh Jacobs’ Suspension Risk Now Belongs in His Fantasy Football Price

Jacobs’ fantasy profile has largely depended on dependable rushing volume and substantial scoring opportunities in Green Bay. He has averaged 15 total touchdowns per season during his two years with the Packers, while Jacobs’ red-zone usage has remained among the league leaders. That combination gives him weekly RB1 upside even if Green Bay occasionally reduces his snap rate or the yardage doesn’t meet expectations.

The legal situation creates a separate availability issue from the normal injury risk attached to this veteran running back. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst acknowledged on Aug. 26 that Green Bay has prepared for the possibility of playing without Jacobs.

Fantasy managers should avoid trying to predict an exact suspension length. Assigning Jacobs an assumed number of missed games isn’t the play. Your correct view should come down to whether you’re willing to navigate the uncertainty and potential absence. Risk-averse gamers ought to scratch him off the list entirely rather than bring undue stress into the equation.

Managers who don’t mind the risk-reward guessing game and are confident in their drafting skills should lean into the slide. Jacobs remains draftable as a low-end RB2, but comparable backs without unresolved availability concerns should move ahead of him, and you’ll see this borne out in ADP figures over the coming days.

Who Gains the Most Upside if Josh Jacobs Misses Time?

MarShawn Lloyd has done enough this summer to become the most intriguing fantasy contingency behind Jacobs. Green Bay gave Lloyd extensive first-team work earlier in August while Jacobs dealt with a groin injury and Chris Brooks recovered from a hamstring issue. Lloyd handled the bulk of the first-team reps on Aug. 6, then started Green Bay’s preseason opener when Jacobs sat out.

His work continued with the starters against Denver in the preseason. Lloyd caught an 11-yard touchdown from Jordan Love on Green Bay’s opening possession, giving fantasy managers a glimpse of what may be to come.

Health remains Lloyd’s major obstacle. Injuries disrupted each of his first two NFL seasons, leaving him without the body of regular-season work that would support projecting a dependable feature role, so there’s no shortage of risk here.

The Jacobs situation still improves Lloyd’s draft appeal. Late-round running backs need a credible route to meaningful touches to justify a selection, and Lloyd now has one. He belongs on deeper-league draft boards as a bench back with substantial upside if Jacobs misses time.

Chris Brooks Could Share the Packers’ Backfield

Chris Brooks deserves attention, too. Green Bay’s unofficial Aug. 24 depth chart lists Brooks directly behind Jacobs and Lloyd third. Brooks also brings more NFL experience than Lloyd and has earned the Packers’ trust in pass protection, special teams, and complementary offensive work. Brooks has accumulated 449 yards from scrimmage on 87 touches during his Green Bay career, and he returned from a hamstring injury on Aug. 9 after missing the beginning of training camp.

Fantasy Football Takeaway

The depth chart and Lloyd’s preseason usage point toward a potential committee if Jacobs becomes unavailable. Lloyd offers the more appealing explosive-play profile and has received meaningful first-team opportunities, while Brooks gives Green Bay a dependable option for passing situations and other assignments that can keep him on the field.

Neither backup has established enough NFL production to project as an automatic fantasy starter in Jacobs’ absence. Lloyd carries the greater ceiling, while Brooks could absorb enough work to prevent either player from inheriting Jacobs’ complete workload. Nevertheless, both are now firmly deserving of depth selections in leagues of at least 12 teams.
