As a rookie in 2025, Houston Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins quickly emerged as one of the most dependable pass catchers on the team. But it appears that he won’t be enjoying a follow-up campaign this year after a devastating injury he suffered yesterday.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Higgins suffered a torn ACL during yesterday’s joint practice with the Las Vegas Raiders. He hasn’t officially been placed on season-ending injured reserve yet, but that’s likely going to happen in the coming days, if not hours.
“Sources: #Texans WR Jayden Higgins suffered a torn ACL yesterday during the joint practice against the #Raiders. A tough blow to the Houston receiving room,” Rapoport wrote on X.
Higgins in 2025
Higgins was an All-Big 12 receiver at Iowa State who the Texans took in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He earned a starting job opposite Nico Collins and went on to have a very solid first year, recording 41 receptions for 525 yards and six touchdowns – all top-three on the team. 28 of his 41 receptions went for first downs.
Combine Higgins’ injury with the departure of Christian Kirk and the Texans are left without two of their top six receivers from last season.

Fans were understandably distraught to lose such a key player amid so many other injuries they’re dealing with:
“How many (expletive) people are going to get hurt?” one user demanded to know.
“Ian I’m dead serious I can’t take this anymore,” wrote another.
“Come on man these injuries are outrageous this summer!!!” a third wrote.
“There’s just no reality where I am allowed to have fun as a Houston fan. Get better soon Jayden Higgins.”
