NBA roster moves can get confusing fast, but this latest one from the Charlotte Hornets has left fans doing a bit of a double take. Just days after parting ways with a familiar face, the team suddenly brought that same player right back into the fold.
At first glance it looked like a routine transaction, the kind that usually flies under the radar during the season. But the quick turnaround and the fact that the player already has championship pedigree has sparked plenty of chatter about what might really have been going on behind the scenes.

The man in question here is Pat Connaughton, and his time away from the Charlotte Hornets turned out to be surprisingly brief. After being let go during the team’s recent roster shuffle, the veteran wing was brought back almost immediately once another spot opened up. The quick reversal caught plenty of attention, especially given how active the Hornets have been with moves around the deadline.
Connaughton hasn’t been a major part of the rotation since arriving from Milwaukee last year, having played 22 games and averaging 2.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists in 7.0 minutes per game.
However, his value isn’t really measured in minutes played. He’s one of the few players in that locker room who’s experienced a title run in 2021 with the Bucks. That kind of perspective can be useful for a young roster still figuring things out, and it adds a different kind of stability.
With the Hornets trying to stay competitive in the East, bringing him back seems less about stats and more about leadership as they head into the final stretch.
